An insulated glass unit (IGU) is a separate window component made of several glass panes sealed together with a spacer frame. The quality of the IGU largely determines the overall quality of the window—its appearance, indoor comfort, and heating costs. An IGU can be single-chamber (2 panes) or double-chamber (3 panes). Since most heat loss occurs through the glass, choosing the right IGU is especially important. Wooden European-style windows are typically equipped with double-chamber insulated glass units.
